The Hastings Village Arts Commission is calling artists to submit art works for a special exhibition, presented in association with the Hastings Historical Society.

For most of the 19th and 20th centuries, Hastings-on-Hudson was a thriving industrial community, making the products that made America, from quarrying white marble and refining sugar to manufacturing paving stones, wire, cable, and more.

This Fall, the Hastings Arts Commission and Historical Society will celebrate the art of work in the 21st century. We seek artist submissions that depict the work, workplaces, and working people that are shaping today's world.

Work is typically not only necessary to earn a living, it can be a principal source of our personal identities. It can be a source of great satisfaction and even greater despair. We want to know what you think artistically, literally, and metaphorically. Share with us your works of art that celebrate the art of work.

Artists 18 years and older may submit up to three finished artworks (or multiple images of the same work) in any media that responds to the theme, with a short description of how your artwork(s) celebrate the art of work (50 words or less). Work may not exceed 80 inches in any direction. Artwork must be ready to hang, with hardware in place. Artists are responsible for delivery/pick-up of artwork.

Juror is Daniel Belasco, Executive Director, Al Held Foundation, and former curator at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz and The Jewish Museum in New York.

Deadline for submission is midnight, June 23, 2022. Entry fee of $25 for up to three artworks. Notification by July 3, 2022. Art drop off is August 25, 2022. Exhibition opens Saturday, August 27 through October 28, 2022. Opening party is September 22.
